CEU Honors Employees with Decades of Service

14 October 2017

Five employees of Centro Escolar University received 40-year Service Awards during its Loyalty Day held last September 11, 2017 at the Librada Avelino Auditorium in CEU Manila.

Dr. Olivia Limuaco Mrs. Lolita Balboa, Mrs. Gertrudes Gaviola, Ms. Lily Geroy and Mrs. Elizabeth Roces were the teaching and non-teaching personnel who were granted the highest service awards on this year’s Loyalty Day.

Other 73 academic and non-academic staff were also recognized for rendering service for 15, 20, 25, 30, or 35 years. The day was also intended to parent-alumni who chose CEU for their children’s tertiary education.

“We may give our service awardees financial reward, we may give them flowers, hugs and high-fives, but I strongly believe that the best award they could possibly have, they have already received and does not come from us. Their most significant reward comes from the joy that is internally generated from being completely involved in the long-term and meaningful outcome of their work in the University,” CEU President Dr. Ma. Cristina Padolina said in her message.

This day also serves as a long-time tradition to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Concepcion Aguila, the icon of fidelity to the CEU’s dictum of Science and Virtue.

As a tribute to Dr. Aguila, Councilor Atty. Jessie Diaz, Councilor in Black Town City, Australia and 2016 Global Escolarians Exemplar shared in his message as guest speaker how the great lady became a significant part of his high school years in CEU Parañaque. He recalled some of his inspiring conversations with Dr. Aguila, one of which is when he was told that he’s going to be a lawyer, and this came true, for now he’s a lawyer.

“Loyalty Day in CEU is even more significant because on this day CEU community honors and remembers Dr. Concepcion Aguila, an exemplar of Loyalty. The success of Dr. Aguila and those who follow her footsteps, and even all of us, imbued by loyalty is something that we can really be proud of because it is being said that one of the causes of failures in life is the lack of loyalty”, Atty. Diaz said.

Dr. Shirley Cheong-Teehankee, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Class of 1983 delivered the parent alumna response while Ms. Lily Geroy led the service awardee response.

Throughout the years, the University values and takes pride in its people who have dedicated years of their lives in service with relevant contribution, excellent work, fidelity and commitment to CEU.
