CEU Conservatory of Music Faculty Clinches 1st Prize in International Composition Contest

Centro Escolar University Conservatory of Music’s very own alumnus and faculty member, Mr. Ian Gabriel Corpuz won 1st place for his composition “Bugtong-Bugtong” in the 3rd annual composition contest by The Palouse Choral Society (PCS) in Moscow, Russia.

 

Mr. Corpuz’ composition premiered during PCS’s first concert cycle of their anniversary season, titled “25: Here to Thrive.” The performance will take place on November 1 and 2, 2024 at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman.

 

As a proud graduate of CEU, Mr. Corpuz earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Choral Conducting under the guidance of Dr. Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan and Prof. Jun Ayran. He later pursued Master of Arts in Music Education, specializing in Music Composition, also in CEU. His deep roots in the university have significantly shaped his career, contributing to his success as a composer, conductor, and educator.

 

Currently, Mr. Corpuz serves as a Music teacher at the CEU Conservatory of Music, where he inspires the next generation of musicians. His roles extend to the Philippine Women’s University School of Music and the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Music Production, where he continues to share his expertise. His compositions have gained international recognition, with his work being published by Muziksea, a Singapore-based company dedicated to Southeast Asian composers.

 

Beyond his teaching and compositions, Mr. Corpuz plays an active role in the choral community. He is the Secretary General of the Treble Choir Association of the Philippines (TCAP), founded by his mentor Dr. Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan and Prof. Jude B. Roldan. He is also a valued member of the Eastern Chamber Singers, under the direction of Ms. Anna Tabita Abeleda-Piquero.
