CEU Holds First Webinar for Guidance Counselors

Centro Escolar University Marketing Communications Department in coordination with the Guidance and Counseling Department conducted its first webinar for guidance counselors with a very timely topic “Capacity Building for Tele and Web Counseling” on January 29, 2021 via Zoom.

Almost 200 high school guidance counselors from the National Capital Region, Regions III and IV attended the webinar. Also, for the first time, there were participants from Visayas， particularly Lapu-Lapu City, Aklan, and even from Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

CEU President and Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Ma. Cristina D. Padolina expressed her warm welcome to the guidance counselors who joined the webinar. Relating with the event’s topic, she recognized the fact that in the present work set-up there has really been limitations in terms of communication as we often cannot fully see the one we are talking to, but she was glad that the pandemic happened in this time where our technology is able and ready. She also thanked the organizers for being able to continue staging the event.

The discussion was led by Dr. Julian Montano, Clinical Supervisor at In Touch Philippines focusing on the counseling approaches suited for tele and web counseling. He also shared his insights on the boundaries between the guidance counselors and their student client as well as the recommended set-up and preparations for counseling sessions using both types of platforms to deliver effectively in the practice.

“You have to remember that it is not really the means of communication that defines the success of counseling, but the quality of relationship that you create with your client,” said Dr.Montano.

After the talk, the speaker entertained questions from the participants.
