There is still no actual wearing of togas, cap, nor pink skirt for the ladies in the Manila Hotel on this year’s Commencement Exercises of Centro Escolar University Manila, Malolos and Makati campuses, but reaping the fruit of success of the graduates is as memorable as it was in the normal setup.
Besides presenting virtual diplomas of the Graduating Class of 2021, the University brought online its Sampaguita Interlude for the first time. Video footages of the previous Sampaguita Interlude were shown as background in the screen with the students singing the iconic songs El Collar de Sampaguita, Sampaguitang Mabango, and Sampaguita (La Flor de Manila).
This is a traditional ceremony in CEU held before the graduation where the senior students transfer sampaguita garlands to their junior partners which symbolizes turnover of duties and responsibilities.
After the Sampaguita Interlude, the commencement rites started for the first cluster composed of School of Accountancy and Management, School of Education, Liberal Arts, Music and Social Work, School of Nutrition and Hospitality Management, School of Science and Technology, School of Medicine, and Graduate School. At 2:00 pm, the graduates for the School of Medical Technology, School of Opometry, School of Pharmacy and CEU Malolos followed.
CEU Makati also honored their successful graduates for the undergraduate and graduate programs the week after. Making the occasion extra special was the conferment of honorary degree of Doctor of Laws on Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo during the School of Law and Jurisprudence graduation.
Among the commencement speakers of the CEU Manila, Malolos and Makati graduation ceremonies are Dr. Fe Esperanza Caridad Espino, Medical Specialist IV, Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire, Undersecretary of Health, Pubic Health Services Team, Department of Health, and Dr. Jonel Saludes, Associate Vice President, Research and Global Relations and Director, Center for Natural Drug Discovery and Development, University of San Agustin.
The Office of the University Registrar led by Dr. Rhoda Aguilar together with the members of its working committee made these culminating activities possible despite the current pandemic.
