CEU Hosts Webinar on Resilience Practices Amidst Crisis and Online Counseling for Guidance Counselors
Centro Escolar University Marketing Communications Department in coordination with the Guidance Counseling Department again gathered guidance counselors from the National Capital Region and nearby provinces in Luzon and as far as other parts of the country and abroad for a webinar focused on resilience practices during crisis and online counseling.
The guest speaker, Dr. Ma. Cristina Esquivel Saldivar who is presently a Consultant Psychologist at In Touch Community Services, Inc. (ITCS) had a very engaging discussion and tapped on significant points on mental health and developing resilience in times of crisis and providing virtual counseling. She emphasized the importance of self-care and recognized that guidance counselors, humans as they are, also undergo challenges—one of which is the workload. She then gave tips on how to manage workload in these times.
“After everything I’ve shared, in the end I will still highlight that our support from one another is here. If you feel like after the help you have given to the students, if you feel like the previous attempts have not been working still or it has already been negatively affecting your relationship and even your productivity, it’s time to call for reinforcement. Even counselors will need reinforcements”, said Dr. Saldivar.
The discussion was followed by an open forum where the speaker responded to questions from the guidance counselors.
CEU President and Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Ma. Cristina D. Padolina also graced the event and warmly welcomed the participants. She said that this kind of webinar is a good source of resilience, knowing that they have a network of guidance of counselors whom they can inquire or seek help in addressing problems.
Dr. Carmencita Salonga, Former Head of GCD, Current Vice President for External Affairs of the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association and the Consultant for Student Support in CEU Malolos was also present to introduce the speaker.
The event was made possible through the joint efforts and hands-on preparation of the Marketing Communications Department led by its Head, Dr. Ma. Eleanor C. Espinas with Ms. Jhorizza Palma, Marketing Assistant for Public Relations and the Overall Chair, as well as the Guidance and Counseling Department headed by Mrs. Juana Rose Martinez.
