CEU Joins PH 1st TFCU Talks
Centro Escolar University students actively participated in the first leg of the ABS-CBN’s TFCU Talks Make Your Mark at the Dolphy Theater.
Selected CEU Marketing, Social Work and Mass Communication students witnessed the first-ever talk series of TFCU, The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) global media network program which was primarily designed to engage the young generation in interactive discussions and discourse where all can freely express their ideas and discourses.
Three great speakers who had made a difference in their chosen path shared their inspiring stories with the students from the different colleges and universities in the Philippines. First in line was Engr. Aisa Mijeno who invented the Sustainable Alternative Lighting Technology (SALt), a lamp powered by saltwater. She was also invited during the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit and was recognized by no less than Former US President Barack Obama. Airee Palma, 4th-year CEU Marketing major student joined Engr. Jimeno in the demonstration of how the SALt lamp works.
Next speaker was a tech entrepreneur and Discovering Route star, Garrett Gee, who created and sold the Scan application to Snapchat and earned millions at a young age. However, instead of spending it, he sold his belongings to travel with his family and uploaded their travel videos on their blog called “The Bucket List Family”.
Jonathan Joson, Industry Manager of Google Philippines was the last to share his journey. Like Jimeno and Gee, he is an achiever, but eventually realized that none of it matters once one enters the real world of work.
“It doesn’t matter how good you think you are. It’s how you create value for other people, whether it’s a company or the country or the world,” Joson said.
After all the motivational talks, the students were given the chance to throw questions to the three resource speakers. Some of them also imparted on what things they are passionate about and how they can also make their own mark in the community.
