CEU Music Professor Is Musical Director of Gerald Santos’ Virtual Benefit Concert
Centro Escolar University Conservatory of Music Professor Mr. Joed Balsamo,directed and provided the musical arrangement of the recent virtual benefit concert of international theater artist and Philippines' Concert Prince Gerald Santos.
The concert titled “The Great Shift” featured renowned singers, theater and international concert artists such as Ms. Lea Salonga who rendered musical numbers from OPM pop and ballads to popular songs from Broadway and Philippine musicals. Mr. Balsamo also led the piano with Silent Sanctuary band members Kim Mirandilla Ng on the violin and Anjo Inacay on the cello.
Professor Balsamo is indeed CEU’s pride with his numerous achievements which proved his expertise in the field of music. He was the 2nd Prize Winner in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) for his composition Passacaglia No. 1 in F-sharp Phrygian Mode which became the official contest piece for the 2016 NAMCYA Junior Piano Category. He also received the 3rd prize and Best performance Award of a Filipino piece at the 2000 UP Millennium Piano Competition and 2nd prize at the 2001 NAMCYA Piano Category C. Aside from these recognitions, he also joined musicals and is an active member of various music organizations.
Proceeds of the concert were given to the Good Samaritan Foundation and Artists Welfare Project, Inc. (AWPI) to help the displaced freelance artists in this time of pandemic.
