CEU Produces First Batch of Doctor of Medicine Graduates in First Virtual Graduation

18 February 2021

Centro Escolar University’s commencement exercises this year for its 2020 graduates was very different but was extra special because it produced its first batch of Doctor of Medicine degree holders on its first virtual graduation.

Eduardo Karl Asenjo, Lizbeth Aura Cebrian, Jason Dela Cruz, Judy Anne Eclarino, Kisette Ferrer, Carlo Flores, Christopher Fusieran, Eiverene Calleen Javalera and Michael Labutong are the successful pioneer graduates of the CEU School of Medicine since its establishment in 2016.

“I am very honored to deliver the speech on behalf of my batchmates. We may have different stories to tell but we share a common goal, that is to become doctors—doctors who do not only care for the sick but also are individuals who want to become instruments of change. And as we are trying to survive this deadly virus COVID-19, I have realized that there is something more that this world needs,” said Judy Anne Eclarino.

Aside from the future doctors, new Escolarian graduates from the Makati campus were conferred with their degrees on October 23, 2020 with Mr. Ronaldo Puno, Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET) National President and Retired Senior Justice Antonio Carpio of the Supreme Court of the Philippines as commencement speakers.

A week after, the Manila and Malolos graduates joined and witnessed their virtual graduation rites. Atty. Darwin Clemente from Political Affairs Office II, House of Representatives and Mr. Kah Ooi Tan Optom, Co-Founder and Director, Business Development of nthalmic Technologies Pty Ltd. Both delivered inspirational messages for the graduates.

“Success will all boil down to the amount of effort that you will exert in order to realize your dreams. Surely by this time, I assumed you all now have a working knowledge of your abilities and limitations. However, instead of focusing on your limitations, pay more attention to what you can do to overcome those limitations,” said Atty. Clemente in his speech.

Gyrth Denver Montero, one of the nursing graduates, in his address of thanks also expressed how the pandemic has delayed and changed most of their plans. It also took from them the chance to join CEU’s traditional Sampaguita Interlude, the feeling of marching along the Manila Hotel’s Fiesta Pavilion, and walking towards the center stage to receive their diplomas. But he believed that there is no such thing as a perfect plan because change is constant and God allows things to happen because it is what is best for them.
