CEU Students Qualify for Japan-Multilateral COIL/VE Project: 21st Century
Five Escolarians qualified for inclusion in Japan-Multilateral Collaborative Online International Learning/Virtual Exchange (COIL/VE) Project focusing on 21st Century Skills as the newest initiative of Kansai University’s Institute for Innovative Global Education (IIGE).
Optometry students, Sienna Rose Mabuti, Jehmianne Co, Jhonvid Bangayan, Medical Technology major, Potre Samsiah Azis and Ma. Eleane Castro from the School of Science and Technology represented CEU from February 7 to March 27, 2022 on the said program.
Synchronous virtual classes were held on Mondays and Thursdays which involved interactive lectures and breakout rooms with around 50 students enrolled in a group. Discussions and activities focused on teamwork, collaboration, creativity, presentation skills, well-being, and critical thinking skills.
“It has become an integral part of my weekly routine to attend our classes. What I have learned from the 21st Century Skills Program are things I could bring with me throughout the years but what gives true strength to these learnings are the ways I can potentially share them within my circle of influence,” shared Sienna Rose.
For Jhonvid, what makes his participation to this event extraordinary is being able to make friends and connections all across the world while gaining new knowledge which improved his leadership skills.
After completing the training program, they were given certificates through the digital certification system or the digital badge used in this project.
Jehmianne recalled the best parts of the program which she was able to apply in real situations as a student leader.
“It made me a better leader and taught me that regardless of who we work with, so long as we are all committed to succeed, to respect each other, through teamwork, we will be able to overcome the challenges we face,” said Jehmianne.
The Japan-Multilateral COIL/VE Project: 21st Century Skills is a multinational virtual exchange program designed to enhance the participants’ intercultural competence and develop the knowledge and skills to succeed in the international workplace.
